Crash between semi and Impala leaves 3 dead in White County

MONON, Ind. (WISH) — Three people are dead after a semi tractor trailer and a Chevrolet Impala crashed just north of Monon, Indiana just before 1 Thursday afternoon.

Indiana State Police said in a press release a preliminary investigation revealed that the semi was traveling northbound on US 421 while the Impala was traveling southbound. For a yet unknown reason, the Impala crossed the centerline into the northbound lanes and collided head on with the semi.

First responders began life saving efforts, but three occupants of the Impala, including the driver, died at the scene. ISP said their identities will be released when their next of kin have been notified.

A fourth occupant of the Impala was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, the press release said.

The White County Sheriff’s Office, the White County Coroner’s Office, the Monticello Fire Department, Monon First Responders, the Monon Fire Department and Monticello EMS all assisted at the scene.
