Wardrobe stylist reveals tricks to look your best after holiday weight gain

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Wardrobe stylist Kathy Friend, joined News 8’s Stacy Schooler on Daybreak Sunday morning to share professional techniques to help people look their best following holiday weight gain.

Schooler and friends were college roommates and have maintained a friendship since their time in school.

Friend emphasized that personal style is closely tied to emotional well-being and self-perception. “Fashion style really is all about emotion and that reflection that we see in the mirror affects how we treat other people, it affects our self-esteem,” Friend said.

One specific technique involves pushing up shirt sleeves to reveal the wrist and forearm. Friend explained that long sleeves resting at the hands can add perceived width to the midsection or hips. She suggested using accessories to further enhance the look. “If you simply push up your sleeve and maybe throw on a bracelet to break up that horizontal line, that will instantly slim your midsection,” Friend said.

Friend also advises against using heavy embellishments or large accessories to hide weight. She noted that many people try to “decorate” areas they are unhappy with, which often draws more attention to those spots.
