INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Pacers SuperFan Matt Asen, known as “The Pacer Guy,” is being added to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame’s James F. Goldstein SuperFan Gallery this August.
Asen has been sitting courtside for Pacers games for nearly the last 40 years. He’s known for his inflatable flamingo and spirited signs. Asen steps up his game in the postseason, having not missed a home playoff game in more than 20 years.
The Pacers celebrated Asen’s addition to the SuperFan Gallery with a video and halftime presentation during the game against the Grizzlies on Sunday.
“We are proud to honor The Pacer Guy in our SuperFan Gallery,” President and CEO of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame John L. Doleva said in a statement. “For more than three decades, his passionate support has embodied the spirit and loyalty of basketball fans everywhere. Alongside James F. Goldstein, we look forward to celebrating his story and sharing his memorabilia with our guests.”
Asen will have a SuperFan Ceremony in his honor during Enshrinement Weekend on August 14-16.
