INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The suspect in the murder of Beech Grove police officer has been moved to the Indiana Department of Correction for “safekeeping,” online court records show.
Kenneth Johnson, 47, was approved for the transfer by a Marion County judge on Wednesday. It’s not clear which facility he will be moved to.
Johnson faces several charges, including murder and attempted murder, in the shooting death of 33-year-old Beech Grove Police Ofc. Brian Elliott.
Elliott was fatally shot while responding to a domestic disturbance at a Beech Grove apartment complex on Feb. 16. A second officer at the scene was also shot and injured.
Johnson was being held without bond and faces a sentence of life without parole. Prosecutors have not said if they will seek the death penalty.
His jury trial was set for June.
