Shooting at apartments in Elkhart leave person dead, another injured

ELKHART, Ind. (WISH) — A shooting on Monday left a male dead and a female injured, the Elkhart Police Department said in a news release.

In the search for a suspect, a special weapons and tactics team went to a house fire in the 28000 block of Golden Pond Trail, in the Golden Pond housing subdivision in Elkhart. An updated news release issued Monday night said, “After the fire was extinguished, officers located a body inside the house. At this time, official identification of the body has not been made.”

The Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received calls reporting the shooting with injuries at about 1:54 p.m. in the area of Links Drive and Troon Court. The shooting happened in the 2500 block of Links Drive, which is at The Highlands Apartments.

Officers found a female with an apparent gunshot wound lying outside. A male with apparent gunshot wounds was found inside an apartment.
