Upper Marlboro player turns second chance drawing into $500,000 Powerball prize
Upper Marlboro, MD — A routine lottery purchase aimed at chasing a jackpot delivered a $500,000 payout instead after a Prince George’s County man hit big in a secondary Powerball drawing.
The winner, who chose the nickname Gomoam, purchased five sets of numbers for the April 11 Powerball drawing at Shoppers grocery store located at 806 Largo Center Drive in Largo. He added both the Power Play and Double Play options, increasing his chances beyond the main jackpot drawing.
Although the primary jackpot was not won, the Double Play drawing — held approximately 30 minutes after the main event — produced a winning combination. Gomoam matched all five white balls but not the Powerball, securing the $500,000 second-tier prize.
The ticket was scanned the following day, revealing the full prize amount. The winner claimed the prize April 23 at Maryland Lottery headquarters.
