MADISON, Wisc. (WISH) — Purdue University men’s basketball’s Braden Smith is rewriting the record books.
The senior guard is now the Big Ten Conference’s all-time assists leader.
Smith set the record with an assist to Oscar Cluff with 9:22 in the second half of the No. 5 Boilers’ game against Wisconsin on Saturday night. It was his 891st career assist, the most assists by a player in Big Ten history.
He added two more assists before the game ended. The Westfield High School graduate finished with 14 points and 12 assists on Saturday. He currently has 893 career assists.
Michigan State’s Cassius Winston, who played for the Spartans from 2017-20, previously had the record with 890 career assists.
Purdue ended up winning 89-73 on Saturday night to improve to 3-0 in Big Ten play.
