What started as a routine grocery run ended with a Burtonsville woman claiming the top prize on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off.
BURTONSVILLE, MD — A quick stop at a Lottery vending machine during a grocery trip turned into a $50,000 surprise for a Burtonsville woman after one scratch-off ticket revealed the game’s top prize.
The Maryland Lottery said the woman visited Lottery headquarters on Thursday, July 23, with her husband to claim her $50,000 prize.
The winner said she began playing scratch-offs only a few years ago and decided to purchase $20 worth of tickets while shopping at a Giant supermarket.
Among the tickets she selected was a $5 Multiply Your Money scratch-off.
According to the Lottery, about half of the tickets were winners. After uncovering a $5 prize on one ticket, she scratched another and revealed the game’s $50,000 top prize.
