INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An off-duty Lawrence police officer was among two people shot and injured on the east side of Indianapolis, police said.

They were taken to hospitals Friday night. The officer was reportedly taken to the hospital in stable condition. A second victim was reported to be in critical condition at the hospital.

Medics and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to a report of a person shot just after 10:10 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of Dequincy Street. Later, the police were redirected to another nearby address in the 1900 block of Kildare Avenue. It’s the East 21st Gardens addition southeast of the I-70 interchange for Emerson Avenue.

According to IMPD Sgt. Christopher Higgins, officers arrived and found one person had been shot who was awake and breathing.

Higgins later reported officers found a second victim.

IMPD is said to be taking the lead on the investigation.
