BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — The Hoosiers have turned the page from last season’s national championship run and will shift its focus to the 2026-2027 season.
Indiana football’s annual Spring Game took place on Saturday, April 25th at Memorial Stadium and all eyes were on the new Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover.
Hoover, a TCU transfer, was a four year player in the Big 12 and has thrown for nearly 10,000 passing yards already throughout his career. Hoover has big shoes to fill following up Fernando Mendoza’s Heisman Trophy winning season, but Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti loves the experience Hoover brings.
“I’d say Josh is right where Fernando was last year and Kurtis the year before,” Cignetti said. “He knows how to play quarterback. He’s thrown for a lot of yards and touchdown passes. He’s a quick thinker, nice touch, accurate with the ball. I like where he’s at.”
Hoover shared his admiration for Mendoza and how he plans to succeed as Indiana’s quarterback next season.
“I’ve got so much respect for Fernando,” Hoover said. “What he did last year coming in and obviously won the Heisman, national championship, Big Ten championship, did it all. Anybody that does that, you’ve got the utmost respect. For me coming in here, it’s all about trying to be the best version of myself and trying to come in and be who I am every day.”
