Motorcyclist dies in crash with semi-trailer on Shelby County I-74 overpass

CLOVER VILLAGE, Ind. (WISH) — A 43-year-old Fairland man died early Saturday after his motorcycle ran a red light and hit a semi-trailer on an Interstate 74 overpass, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

The crash happened around 4:25 a.m. Saturday at the I-74 overpass for County Road 400 North.

Investigators say the man was riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson west on 400 North when he ran a red light and struck the trailer of a 2024 Freightliner. The semi driver, 26-year-old Arif Ozer of Primos, Pennsylvania, was exiting eastbound I-74 and turning east on a green light at the time of the crash.

The motorcyclist died at the scene. The Shelby County Coroner’s Office will release his name after notifying his family.

Emergency crews from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelbyville Fire Department, Shelbyville Police Department and Fairland Fire Department had not yet completed their investigation as of Monday afternoon.
