Massachusetts age of consent loophole closed by state budget

Leigh Davis was campaigning for her first time in Massachusetts State’s House of Representatives when the news broke about Matthew Rutledge, the former teacher at the Miss Hall’s School in Pittsfield. At the time, Rutledge had been accused of sexual assault and a loophole in the state's law made it difficult for charges to be filed against him by the Berkshire County District Attorney Timothy Shugrue. Shugrue, along with people Davis was meeting on the campaign trail, were asking for someone to address this.
