INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police are investigating after a man was shot Monday night on Indy’s far east side.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, at approximately 7:50 p.m., officers responded to the 2500 block of Brookville Road on the report of a person shot.

That’s located off Emerson Avenue and South Grand Avenue.

IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer told News 8 that the man is in stable condition and was taken to the hospital.

Police “believe this is a mistaken identity” situation, and say “the subject was looking for a man named Frank.” Police say the man who was shot does not have that name.

Police did not provide any further information regarding a suspect.

“Now we have a Memorial Day, we’re celebrating and honoring the military members that have given their lives for the freedoms that we have in this country, and, unfortunately, we have people out doing irresponsible things and doing shootings like this,” Weilhammer said.

“A lot of people are out celebrating, and we definitely don’t need people driving through the neighborhood shooting rounds at somebody,” Weilhammer said.

“It’s a sad thing.”
