Man critical, person detained after shooting near Indiana Convention Center

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police said a man was fighting for his life Thursday night following a shooting in a parking garage near the Indiana Convention Center.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police said people flagged down officers patrolling the area to inform them of shots fired just after 6 p.m. Thursday at a parking garage just east of the convention center in the 100 block of South Capitol Avenue.

Officers found a person described as a young adult man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police provided aid at the scene before the man was taken to an area hospital in very critical condition.

Police said they have detained one person from the scene and were working to learn the person’s involvement.

Police were asking anyone with information or surveillance footage to come forward.

Police said increased patrols will be placed around the convention center and the garage.
