Man arrested for pointing firearm at woman in Walmart parking lot

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — A 44-year-old man from Elizabethtown, Indiana, was arrested for pointing a firearm at a woman in a Walmart parking lot in Columbus, Indiana.

At 10:54 a.m. Thursday, officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to a Walmart at 735 Whitefield Drive in Columbus after a 911 caller said someone pointed a firearm at her. Officers arrived to the scene, where they gathered information from the woman and a witness.

Based on the information, Investigators believe a man driving a Jeep truck opened his door and pointed a handgun at a woman in the parking lot after she drove past his truck. The two vehicles came close to colliding.

The man then left the parking lot in the Jeep. A witness was able to obtain a license plate. Officers found the Jeep and stopped it near the intersection of U.S. 31 and County Road 100 South. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted and the driver was detained. A revolver was found inside of the truck.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Tadd Martin, 44, was arrested on preliminary charges of pointing a firearm, a level 6 felony, and intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony.
