KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — A 21-year-old man faces multiple charges following the shooting death of his wife, a shooting that also injured their 1-month-old child.
The Kokomo Police Department announced Cameron Tomlinson’s arrest on Facebook Wednesday.
Just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, Kokomo police officers arrived at an apartment in the 400 block of West Lincoln Road after receiving a report of a shooting. The 911 caller told dispatchers that a woman had shot herself.
There, officers located 21-year-old Jessica Tomlinson suffering a gunshot wound to her torso. Despite life-saving measures, she died at the scene.
Also inside the apartment was the victim’s husband, Cameron Tomlinson, and their 1-month-old infant. Investigators say the infant had been shot in the hand, “resulting in significant trauma.” The child was in stable condition at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis as of Wednesday.
During the initial investigation, officers learned that Jessica Tomlinson was reportedly handling a gun while holding the infant, and accidentally shot herself.
But following multiple interviews with Cameron Tomlinson, neighbors, and family members, Cameron Tomlinson was taken into custody.
