Former Today anchor Katie Couric is sharing her thoughts on the predicament the show has found itself in with Savannah Guthrie away indefinitely as authorities continue the search for her missing mother, Nancy.
Savannah, 54, stepped away from the morning talk show after her mother, 84, went missing on the evening of February 1. Since then, former anchor Hoda Kotb has been filling in for her.
Speaking to Variety in an article published on Thursday, February 26, Couric — who was an anchor on Today from 1991 to 2006 before shifting over to CBS — offered her thoughts on what the staff must be going through as well as the appearance of Kotb.
“This situation is tragically unprecedented, and I think it’s really hard to compare anything else to what Savannah and her family are dealing with right now,” Couric told the outlet. “I do think morning shows are living, breathing organisms, and when something happens to a member of these very close-knit teams, it is devastating, I think, to everyone.”
