INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Katherine Legge and Ryan Hunter-Reay crashed coming out of Turn 2 of the Indianapolis 500.

The crash occurred on lap 18. Both drivers were able to climb out of their cars under their own power.

Hunter-Reay lost it coming out of the turn, spinning out. Legge tried to avoid Hunter-Reay, but ended up hitting the wall.

“I’m gutted,” Legge said. “I was hoping that we were just back there kind of saving fuel and chilling out. We were just riding, trying to get through the majority of the laps and be really sensible because I really wanted to make the 1,100 miles.”

Legge was attempting “The Double,” completing all 1,100 miles in the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600.

“I was super loose from the start and I just kept wearing on the white wheel and catching it and catching it and catching it, lap after lap… Feel bad for the team. Arrow McLaren’s been phenomenal.,” Hunter-Reay said.
