ISP investigating inmate death at Washington County Jail

SALEM, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana State Police (ISP) is investigating the death of an inmate after he was found unresponsive in his cell at the Washington County Jail Sunday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m. Sunday, Washington County Jail officials were alerted to an unresponsive inmate lying in his bunk. Correctional officers immediately provided first aid and requested an ambulance. The inmate, identified as 61-year-old David Scott Elliott, of Georgetown, Indiana, was rushed to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Salem, Indiana, where he was pronounced dead.

Washington County Sheriff Brent Miller requested ISP assistance.

No foul play is suspected. Elliott’s death remains under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Elliott’s family has been notified.
