Indianapolis Capitols join Continental Football League for 2026 season

WHEELING, W.Va. (WISH) — The Indianapolis Capitols will join the Continental Football League as the final franchise in the Northern Division for the 2026 season.

The Wednesday morning announcement from the minor league pro football organization completed the division’s lineup ahead of the league’s inaugural launch, which should be in late May based on a countdown clock on its website.

Carrie Copley, director of media relations for the league, told News 8 by email that Commissioner Mike Kelly “will be talking with local stadiums to find the best fit” for the Capitols’ home games. No game schedule has yet been announced.

In a news release, the league says the addition of the Capitols marks the return of a historic brand that previously competed in the league during the 1960s.

The Continental Football League intends to operate as an eight-team league divided into two regions.

The Indianapolis Capitols, also referred to as the Caps, will compete the Northern Division lineup. The division includes the Ohio Valley Ironmen, Cincinnati Dukes and Michigan Arrows.

Expansion for the Southern Division is ongoing, with the San Antonio Toros, Texas Syndicate and Tall City Black Gold already established.
