INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Investigators believe a man killed a woman at a home on the northwest side of Indianapolis on Tuesday evening before taking his own life.

Just after 6 p.m., the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a death investigation in the 1200 block of Congress Avenue. That’s in a neighborhood near the intersection of 30th and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. streets, just south of I-65.

Officers arrived and found a man outside the home, dead from an apparent suicide, IMPD says.

People at the scene told investigators there was a woman who lived at the home, and they’d been unable to contact her.

Officers entered the house and found the woman unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the man as 51-year-old Rafael Roman. The woman’s name and age have not been released.

IMPD homicide detectives are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide. It’s unclear what led to the incident or exactly when it happened.

Anyone with information about this incident should call Detective Bradley Hinshaw at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or e-mail the detective at Bradley.Hinshaw@indy.gov.
