Federal immigration agents detain Mercer County defendant pending removal proceedings

Newark, NJ – Federal immigration authorities have arrested a Guatemalan national in New Jersey following a recent criminal conviction involving child neglect, officials said. The arrest was carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Newark field office.

Raul Lopez Santiago was taken into custody on March 17, according to ICE. Authorities said he is in the United States without legal status and has a prior conviction in Mercer County.
