Heavy rain lingers tonight before a slow return to quieter weather | August 1, 2026

TONIGHT

Periods of showers and thunderstorms continue through the evening, with scattered showers lingering after about 2 a.m. Temperatures only fall into the upper 60s, and winds remain light as the center of the slow-moving system passes across the region. The biggest concern tonight is not widespread severe weather, but repeated rounds of rain over the same communities. Some areas could receive another one to three inches, with locally higher totals possible, creating a risk for flash flooding and water covering roads. Never attempt to drive through a flooded stretch of pavement, especially after dark when the depth is difficult to judge. An isolated damaging wind gust or brief tornado remains possible early this evening, primarily east and southeast of Indianapolis, but that threat should diminish as the night progresses.
