GLP-1’s to be made available to Hoosiers through Medicaid

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Eligible Hoosiers will now be able to receive select GLP-1 medications through Medicaid, according to Governor Mike Braun.

According to a press release from the Governor’s office, Braun is directing the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration to participate in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation’s Better Approaches to Lifestyle and Nutrition for Comprehensive hEalth (BALANCE) demonstration.

Through the BALANCE model, pharmaceutical manufacturers in Indiana like Eli Lily will be able to sell select GLP-1’s to Indiana’s Medicaid. Medicaid will pay $245 per member per month for the medications.

The release did not say how much Medicaid members will have to pay for GLP-1’s.

Along with access to GLP-1 medications, pharmaceutical manufacturers will also be providing a lifestyle support program at no additional cost to the state.

“Indiana is proud to expand access to essential treatment for eligible Hoosiers. This agreement reflects our commitment to Make Indiana Healthy Again by pursuing practical solutions that increase healthier lives,” said Governor Mike Braun in the release.
