New York, NY – A massive gas explosion ripped through a Bronx high-rise early Saturday morning, killing one person and injuring at least 15 others after firefighters had arrived to investigate reports of a gas odor, according to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
The blast occurred around 12:09 a.m. at 3485 Bivonia Street, where FDNY units were checking for the source of a reported gas smell on the building’s upper floors. As firefighters reached the 15th and 16th floors, an explosion erupted, causing extensive structural damage and igniting fires across multiple apartments.
