Driver dies at hospital after head-on collision in East County

A driver died shortly after he was involved in a head-on crash outside Barrett Junction on state Route 94 on Monday, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash occurred when the Nissan Cube he was driving on eastbound SR-94 near Little Tecate Road veered into oncoming traffic and slammed into a Dodge Ram around 2:55 p.m., CHP officials said.

The Nissan’s driver was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name was not immediately released.

The pickup’s driver sustained injuries believed not to be life-threatening and was taken to a hospital.

The pickup’s driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, investigators said.
