MARION, Ind. (WISH) — A 22-year-old California man has been arrested after he scammed a Grant County, Indiana, man out of $231,000 by falsely identifying himself as an FBI agent.

On June 7, 2025, The Grant County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation with Sweetser Police Department after a 68-year-old Sweetser resident reported he believed he was scammed out of over $231,000. The telephone scammers falsely identified themselves as FBI, and a Sweetser officer advised the victim that his identity had been compromised and that criminal charges had been filed in his name.
