Brownsburg High School to retire Gordon Hayward’s jersey

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — Brownsburg legend and 14-year NBA veteran Gordon Hayward will have his jersey retired at Brownsburg High School.

Hayward will be honored before the Brownsburg boys basketball game on Thursday, February 5, when the Bulldogs take on West Lafayette. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Hayward helped lead Brownsburg to its first and only state championship in 2008, where the Bulldogs knocked off Marion in the state title game.

Hayward was a first-team All-State player with the Bulldogs.

Hayward also starred at Butler, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2010 National Championship Game. He was the 2010 Horizon League Player of the Year, averaging 15.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Hayward played for the Utah Jazz, Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, and Oklahoma City Thunder in his NBA career. He averaged 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game throughout his career.

Hayward currently works with Butler men’s basketball, where he is the executive basketball advisor.
