INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) has revealed a significant piece of its history during a Turn 2 repave project, unearthing bricks from the original racing surface laid in 1909.

The repave project, part of a four-part miniseries, addressed bumps in Turn 2 caused by the expansion of bricks beneath the surface due to Indiana’s weather conditions. These bricks, which had not been seen since 1937, were removed to ensure the track’s integrity and safety.
