BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — A 49-year-old man from Bloomington carried out a murder-suicide involving his estranged brother on Friday in Santa Clara, California.

Investigators say Matthew Heflin arrived in April in the San José, California, area with guns and secretly rented the home next door to his brother, Mark.

Police said Matthew confronted Mark outside his home and shot his brother multiple times. He then returned to a rental property.

Matthew subsequently set the rental property on fire. His body was later found inside the burned home.

Authorities also said the brothers had been estranged for at least three years.
