AES Indiana suspends disconnections amid winter storm

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – As a weekend winter storm is expected to bring more than a half foot of snow and wind chill values as low as -20, AES Indiana is temporarily suspending disconnections for nonpayment. 

The company said the suspension will last through the end of January. 

“Winter Storm Fern is expected to bring dangerously cold temperatures along with significant snowfall this weekend,” AES said in a release. “Our team is fully staffed and prepared to meet the increased demand for electricity. We encourage customers to stay safe and prepare for the bitter cold.”

AES Indiana provides electric service to more than 530,000 customers in Indianapolis and surrounding communities. Customers can sign up for alerts and report power outages online or by calling 317-261-8111. 

High temperatures over the weekend are expected to land in the mid-teens. Many have already prepared for the winter storm by stocking up on food and supplies
