NEW PALESTINE, Ind. (WISH) — A 5-year-old child was in fair condition at Riley Hospital after an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The New Palestine Police Department said on Facebook that officers were dispatched just after noon Friday to the 2400 block of Carlota Drive regarding a person shot.
When they arrived, they found the child with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Officers rendered medical aid until Sugar Creek Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene, police said. The child was then transported to Riley in fair condition.
Evidence collected at the scene led investigators to believe the incident was an accident, the department said. This is an ongoing investigation.
Any further updates will be released via the New Palestine Police Department.
